(Edmund Pettus Bridge 6-4) - On March 7, 1965, civil rights marchers headed east out of Selma to Montgomery. Police awaited the marchers as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge and a brutal attack ensued. Seventeen marchers were hospitalized, leading to the naming of the day, “Bloody Sunday”.
